🍯 Golden Syrup Dumplings Recipe
🧂 Ingredients:
For the dumplings:
-
1 cup self-raising flour
-
1 tbsp butter (softened)
-
1/3 cup milk
-
1 pinch salt
For the syrup:
-
¾ cup golden syrup
-
1 ¼ cups water
-
¼ cup brown sugar
-
1 tbsp butter
👨🍳 Instructions:
1. Make the syrup:
-
In a large saucepan (with a lid), combine golden syrup, water, brown sugar, and butter.
-
Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat while stirring occasionally. Then reduce heat to low.
2. Make the dumpling dough:
-
In a mixing bowl, sift the flour and salt.
-
Rub in the softened butter with your fingers until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
-
Stir in the milk gradually until a soft dough forms (don’t overmix).
3. Form dumplings:
-
Roll the dough into small balls, about the size of a walnut (you should get 8–10).
4. Simmer the dumplings:
-
Carefully drop dumplings into the simmering syrup.
-
Cover the pan with a lid and simmer on low for 15–20 minutes. Do not lift the lid for at least 10 minutes — the steam helps them cook evenly.
5. Serve:
-
Serve hot with the syrup spooned over the top.
-
Optional: Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, cream, or custard.
🔁 Tips & Variations:
-
Add lemon zest or a dash of vanilla to the syrup for extra aroma.
-
Swap golden syrup for maple syrup or honey in a pinch (but the flavor will change).
-
For extra richness, serve with a splash of thickened cream.
