🍔 Serves: 4
⏱️ Ready in: 25–30 minutes
🛒 Ingredients:
-
500 g (1 lb) ground chicken
-
1 tbsp olive oil or butter
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
-
½ tsp smoked paprika (optional, for depth)
-
2 tbsp tomato paste
-
150 ml (⅔ cup) tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tsp hot sauce (like Tabasco or Frank’s), optional
-
Salt & pepper to taste
-
4 brioche or burger buns
-
Optional toppings: sliced pickles, coleslaw, cheese, or crispy onions
👨🍳 Instructions:
-
Cook the veggies:
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook another minute. -
Brown the chicken:
Add the ground chicken to the pan. Cook, breaking it up, until browned and cooked through (about 5–7 minutes). Drain any excess liquid if needed. -
Add flavor:
Stir in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and tomato paste. Cook for 1–2 minutes to caramelize the paste slightly. -
Simmer the sauce:
Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire, and hot sauce. Stir well, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 5–10 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste. -
Toast the buns (optional):
While the mixture simmers, lightly toast your buns in a dry pan or under a broiler. -
Assemble:
Spoon the hot Cajun chicken mixture onto buns. Add your favorite toppings — we recommend a crunchy slaw or creamy cheese to balance the spice.
🍟 Serving Ideas:
-
Serve with sweet potato fries, corn on the cob, or pickled veggies
-
Make it into sliders for parties
🌶️ Make it spicier?
Add chopped jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne during cooking.
