Servings: 12–15 stuffing balls
📝 Ingredients:
-
1 tablespoon butter (plus extra for greasing)
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
1 medium onion, finely chopped
-
2 celery stalks, finely chopped
-
2 garlic cloves, minced (optional)
-
1 teaspoon dried sage (or 1 tbsp fresh, chopped)
-
1 teaspoon dried thyme
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
-
4 cups (about 200g) dry bread cubes or stuffing mix
-
1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth (more as needed)
-
1 egg, beaten
-
Optional add-ins:
-
1/2 cup cooked sausage, crumbled
-
1/4 cup dried cranberries
-
1/4 cup chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts)
-
👩🍳 Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
-
Sauté veggies: In a skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and celery; cook until soft (about 5–7 minutes). Add garlic, herbs, salt, and pepper. Cook 1 more minute.
-
Mix stuffing: In a large bowl, combine bread cubes (or stuffing mix) with sautéed veggies. Stir in any optional add-ins you like (e.g., sausage, cranberries, nuts).
-
Add liquid: Pour in the beaten egg and broth. Mix until the bread is moistened but not soggy. Add a bit more broth if it’s too dry.
-
Form balls: Using clean hands, shape the mixture into balls (about the size of a golf ball). You should get around 12–15.
-
Bake: Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside.
🧊 Storage Tips:
-
Make ahead: Prepare and shape balls, refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
-
Freezing: Bake, cool completely, and freeze. Reheat at 350°F for 10–15 mins.
