🫓 Air Fryer Pita Bread
🍽 Ingredients:
For Homemade Pita Bread (Optional):
-
2¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
-
1 tsp sugar
-
¾ cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
-
2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 tbsp olive oil
OR:
-
Use store-bought pita bread (white or whole wheat) for a quicker option.
🔥 Instructions
If Using Store-Bought Pita:
-
Preheat Air Fryer: Set to 350°F (175°C) for 2–3 minutes.
-
Optional Brushing: Lightly brush pita with olive oil and sprinkle with a bit of salt or seasoning (like za’atar, garlic powder, or paprika).
-
Air Fry: Place pita in the air fryer basket (cut in halves or quarters if needed to fit). Cook for 3–5 minutes, flipping halfway, until warm, lightly crispy, or golden brown—depending on your preference.
-
Serve Warm: Great for dipping or filling with sandwich ingredients.
If Making Homemade Pita Bread:
1. Activate Yeast:
-
In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the Dough:
-
Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until dough forms.
-
Knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
-
Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
3. Shape Pitas:
-
Punch down dough and divide into 6 pieces.
-
Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten into ¼-inch thick discs.
4. Air Fry:
-
Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
-
Lightly oil the basket to prevent sticking.
-
Cook 1–2 pitas at a time for 4–5 minutes, flipping halfway. They should puff slightly and turn golden.
📝 Note: Air fryers vary—adjust temperature/time as needed. To get a puff, the dough must be well-rested and rolled evenly.
🔄 Optional Variations:
-
Pita Chips: Cut pita into triangles, brush with olive oil and seasoning, and air fry at 350°F for 5–7 minutes until crispy.
-
Herb Pitas: Mix chopped herbs (like rosemary or oregano) into dough or sprinkle on top before air frying.
