Cook Time: 25 min
π Ingredients:
For the Beef & Gravy:
-
1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 or leaner)
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
-
2 cups beef broth (low sodium)
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
Salt & black pepper to taste
-
Optional: 1/2 tsp dried thyme or rosemary
For the Mashed Potatoes:
-
2 lbs (about 4 medium) russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
-
4 tbsp butter
-
1/3β1/2 cup milk (warm)
-
Salt to taste
πͺ Instructions:
1. Make the Mashed Potatoes:
-
Place cubed potatoes in a pot, cover with cold water and salt generously.
-
Bring to a boil and cook 12β15 minutes until fork-tender.
-
Drain, return to pot, add butter and milk.
-
Mash until smooth. Season with salt. Cover and set aside.
2. Cook the Ground Beef & Gravy:
-
In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium-high heat. Break it up with a spoon.
-
Once mostly cooked, add onions and garlic. Cook until soft, about 3β4 minutes.
-
Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture. Stir well and cook for 1 minute (this thickens the gravy).
-
Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
-
Add Worcestershire sauce, and optional herbs.
-
Simmer 5β7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
-
Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
3. Assemble:
-
Scoop mashed potatoes onto plates.
-
Spoon the beef and gravy over the top.
-
Optional: garnish with chopped parsley or a pat of butter.
