🧀 Honey Thyme Spicy Camembert with Grilled Baguette Fingers
🍽️ Serves 2–4 as a starter/snack
🧾 Ingredients:
For the Camembert:
-
1 whole Camembert (in a wooden box or baking-safe container)
-
1 tbsp honey (plus extra for drizzling)
-
1–2 sprigs of fresh thyme
-
Pinch of chili flakes or a few slices of fresh red chili
-
1 clove garlic, thinly sliced (optional)
-
Black pepper
-
Olive oil
For the Baguette:
-
1 fresh baguette
-
Olive oil for brushing
-
Sea salt flakes (optional)
🔪 Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven:
-
Heat to 180°C (350°F).
2. Prepare the Camembert:
-
If the Camembert comes in a wooden box, remove any plastic and place it back in the box (without the lid). Wrap the outside of the box in foil if needed to prevent leaks.
-
Score a criss-cross pattern on top of the rind with a sharp knife.
-
Drizzle with honey, tuck in thyme sprigs, chili flakes (or sliced chili), and garlic if using.
-
Crack some black pepper over the top and drizzle a little olive oil.
3. Bake:
-
Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the cheese is gooey inside and bubbling around the edges.
4. Prepare the Baguette Fingers:
-
Slice the baguette into long “fingers” or strips.
-
Brush lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
-
Grill on a hot griddle pan or under a broiler for 1–2 minutes per side until golden and crispy with grill marks.
5. Serve:
-
Bring the hot Camembert straight to the table with the grilled baguette fingers on the side.
-
Drizzle a little extra honey over the cheese just before serving for shine and sweetness.
-
Scoop, dip, and enjoy.
🍷 Pairing Ideas:
-
Drink: Dry white wine (like Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay) or light red (Pinot Noir)
-
Add-ons: Sliced apples, toasted walnuts, or charcuterie on the side
