Here’s a classic Yorkshire pudding recipe for you:
Ingredients:
- 140g (1 cup) plain flour (all-purpose flour)
- 4 large eggs
- 200ml (3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or beef dripping, if preferred)
Method:
- Prepare the batter:
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Add the eggs and whisk until smooth.
- Gradually pour in the milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps, until you have a smooth, lump-free batter.
- Let the batter rest for at least 30 minutes (if possible), but if you’re in a hurry, you can skip this step.
- Heat the oven:
- Preheat your oven to 220°C (200°C fan/425°F/Gas 7).
- Prepare the baking tray:
- Put about 1/2 tsp of oil (or beef dripping) into each compartment of a 12-hole muffin tin or a baking tray if you prefer larger puddings.
- Place the tray into the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the oil is hot and shimmering.
- Pour in the batter:
- Once the oil is very hot, carefully remove the tray from the oven and immediately pour the batter into the compartments, filling them about halfway.
- Be careful not to let the batter splash or spill, as the oil will be very hot.
- Bake:
- Return the tray to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the puddings have risen and are golden brown and crisp on top. Avoid opening the oven door during baking, as this could cause them to collapse.
- Serve:
- Remove from the oven and serve immediately while they’re still puffed up and crisp. They’re perfect with a roast dinner, gravy, or as a snack.
